PLEASE
READ THIS. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT
Milton Parish Council is made up of 7 Councillors. (4 for Milton
Heights' ward and 3 for the village ward). This does not mean the Councillors
have to live in the ward for which they stand/are elected as all Councillors
work for the good of the whole Parish. The
Parish Council makes an essential contribution to running our local area. It ensures the community has a voice in
planning decisions, looks after our cemetery and public areas and supports a
range of local charities and organisations.
The elections in May are for both Parish and District Councillors. However, only one of the present Parish Councillors completed the necessary paperwork, so has been returned unopposed. This means there are now 6 vacancies on the Council. The Returning Officer at the Vale of White Horse District Council is arranging for another election to be held in June. Prospective candidates need to return paperwork between 9th and 17th May.
If too few people come forward, all community matters will be
overseen by the District Council rather than by people from our own community.
You do not require any special skills to be a Parish Councillor,
but everyone has something to contribute.
Also, free training is provided and some expenses paid.
Eligibility to stand:
Be 18 years old or over. No top age limit.
Be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the EU.
AND meet ONE of the following FOUR qualifications.
a. You are registered as a local government elector for the Parish
in which you want to stand.
b. You have occupied (as owner or tenant) land or other premises in the Parish in the past 12 months.
c. Your main place of work in the past 12 months has been in the Parish.
d. You have lived in the Parish or within three miles of it in the past 12 months.
So please think about standing. To find out more about what being a Parish Councillor involves, please go to the Electoral Commission website electoralcommission.org.uk or contact the Clerk or one of the present Councillors for more information.
Thank You
Zena Hoskins

The council are attempting to broker an agreement with the district council to alter the situation.
The councillors decided to move the meetings from Mondays to Wednesdays. A list of dates and venues can be found here.

The council approved the 2023/24 budget. The council resolved to donate £5,000 to the Milton welfare trust to help parishioners that are most in need, please contact them if you need help. The proportion of your council tax you pay towards the parish has been reduced. This was because the council realised the current financial situation is a strain on all parishioners.
The footpath by the side of the school at Milton heights is being resurfaced starting 13/2/2023 for three weeks. There will be either limited or no access during this period.
