News at St Blaise School

February 2024

Dear All,

Happy New Year! We welcomed everyone back to the start of the new term and are looking forward to the year ahead.

We have spent time during the first few weeks thinking about emotions, introducing some new characters to help us describe and name the way we are feeling.

This term Maple and Beech class will be taking part in a production of Bugsy Malone. This is a great musical full of fast paced songs, good characters and splurge guns. Tickets are on sale if you would like to come and see the show. The children work very hard and do an outstanding job putting on a very professional show. Please contact the office for tickets.

We are pleased to announce the opening of our sharing shed. We have a range of adult and children’s clothes, uniform and shoes. The shed is for families to come along and help themselves. We continue to use the Friday share box which we also hope helps everyone and also promotes recycling.

The school football team have begun their 23/24 season with a resounding victory over Clifton Hampden School. We have matches against Radley and Drayton this month

2023

Dear All,

The school continues to grow – we now have 143 children which is a wonderful way to start the year. It is great to welcome new pupils and their families to St Blaise.

We welcomed Oak class with a special assembly. Worship leaders told the story of Zacchaeus, we presented them with jewels to put in our school treasure box and had refreshments with the parents and carers.

Mrs Kirkham organised a superb art week to launch our new art scheme of work. We will be working on this area of the curriculum during the year. Classes looked at an artist, creating versions of their work, finding out about them and then exhibiting their work

A group of three diamond card winners went to meet our school alpaca. Blaise is now a year old. They enjoyed feeding Blaise and meeting the rest of the herd.

July / August 2023

Dear All,

We have had a productive summer. We began with an inter-house netball competition. We took part in events at St Helen and St Katharine’s and held our own sports day. The children have enjoyed the events and shown great team spirit.

Poplar class paid a visit to the Oxford Synagogue. The trip was so interesting for the pupils and staff. It has given us a much better understanding of the role of the synagogue and how Jews celebrate shabbat.

By the time you read this we will be nearing the end of another school year. During this year we have gained pupils. The school roll is 130 pupils. Next year we will have 145 children which is wonderful. We have developed our outdoor spaces, including the recent introduction of a buddy bench, picnic benches and other seating areas. This has been possible thanks to a kind donation from the Warner Trust and another local business. Our production ‘It’s Showtime’ received rave reviews. We have brought back many of our trips and visits and for the first time in many years we have re-introduced the school fête. The school football team has been very successful and will continue next year.

We are pleased to work in conjunction with the Parish Council, St Blaise Church and Milton Football Club. These links are extremely important to us and we are very grateful for their continued support.

We wish all of our Y6  pupils all the very best in their new schools.

They have been a super year group who have had to endure a lot during their primary education with the disruption from COVID. They have remained enthusiastic, positive and a pleasure to teach. They will be much missed.

The applications for September 2023 reception spaces have now closed. If you have missed the deadline, you will be able to make a late application: https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/residents/schools/apply-school-place/reception-applications/make-application

We have a number of spaces in next year’s year one. We have no spaces in any other year groups.

June 2023

We have had a great term, welcoming new families, meeting our September 2023 new reception children and taking part in Coronation activities. We held a design a new stamp competition which was very popular, we had winners from each class. Karina our music teacher organised a musical celebration with the children writing their own anthems. Children paraded to the music. Oak class performed action songs and Key stage two sang the national anthem.

Last week we held a rounders competition. Children played against their families and won by one and a half rounders. After school families gathered on the school field for a picnic. 40 families attended the event which was a fantastic turn out.

The event was organised by Mr Cleal who is our sports teacher, he did a great job, we will be doing a similar event in September,

We are delighted to announce that our school football team have had amazing success this year. The season has ended with them coming second across the small schools division. We were delighted to receive our new football kit, sponsored by ICT123 and rain jackets donated by Jon Kogel, our school grounds company.

This year we have been very lucky to have a new coach – Paul Darby. Paul has given up his time to coach the team. His focus has been on team work – it has certainly paid off. Well done to everyone involved.

News at St Blaise School - May 2023

Dear All,

We are enjoying the arrival of spring. Our new field area and playground is in full use. We are trying different ways to organise it and balance the needs of the children. The football pitch is in great demand. We work alongside Milton Football Club who use the area at the weekends and look after It for us. We have our own school football team and daily usage at playtimes. We have created an extended science garden, 30 trees have taken well and our wooden huts are very popular. The trim trail is a popular addition to our facilities. We are now looking at benching, bins and quiet spaces.

Gardening club is back – working hard to manage the school site.

Beech class invited parents to view their work by holding a showcase afternoon. The class told the parents about the Egyptians, displayed their work and entertained them with their art work.

20 families visited the work along with staff and governors. It was a great afternoon

May time brings the Kings Coronation. Ash class were delighted to receive a thank you letter from King Charles III. Ash wrote to his majesty and sent their condolences to him and the family. We had a lovely card back. We will be celebrating with a music event, parents v children rounders competition and family picnic.

We are working with the Parish Council to bring about the installation of a new path across the field at the bottom of the school grounds. The linked pathways would enable pupils, parents, staff and visitors to park away from the main entrance and have a clean route to school from the parking at the rear. If you would like to see this happen please contact Janet Shelly who we need to get on board with the project.

News at St Blaise School – April 2023

Dear All,

We have had a super spring term at St Blaise. Highlights have included celebrating our love of reading by taking part in World Book Day. Children and staff dressed up. We took part in a buddy book share and ran competitions across the school.

Families have supported with fundraising events  - we supported the NSPCC by raising £110 and recently Red Nose Day by dressing in red and raising £109.

Beech class had a very interesting day at the Ashmolean museum finding out about the Ancient Egyptians. Their knowledge stunned the guide who said that the class had asked and answered questions better than any group he had worked with.

We have a new regenerated school football team sponsored by ICT123. Our new coach Paul Darby has worked extremely hard to bring together some very talented individuals to create a team. Our first match against Wooton St Peters was triumphant with a final score of 16-0 to St Blaise.

We would like to thank the Parish Council for their hard work in securing the new footpath from the Football Club. The path is making a huge difference to the accessibility of sensible and safe parking. We are working with the Parish Council to bring about the installation of a new path across the field at the bottom of the school grounds. The linked pathways would enable pupils, parents, staff and visitors to park away from the main entrance and have a clean route to school from the parking at the rear.
